A thing of beauty and a joy forever
We designed and built this new boat for our new millennium. When one creates something that's going to last a good 100 years, it pays to take certain things into account.
Beauty
Such as, will it be an eyesore 50 years from now? Will styles or circumstances have changed so that people won't be able to bear looking at it? Will its appearance deteriorate so that no one will want it?
We think we've done well with this design. This look is already about 70 years old and it still moves us so maybe it does you, too. We think it will be fine in another 50-100 years. To restore appearance in ten or twenty years, all you have to do is have it repainted, just like a car. Except that unlike a car, this boat won't rust, fatigue, or otherwise fall apart. Epoxy coating means it won't rot, either. Wooden boats built 100 years ago still look fine today.
Utility
Boats are basically utilitarian objects. They are supposed to do something. So here's another thing a boat designer might want to take into account. Will the object of one's design remain useful? Will you still be able to get parts? Will it be economically reasonable to operate it? This boat is outboard powered, so all you have to do is swap out the outboard. Everything else is built to last indefinitely.
Economy
And the real trick of this design is that you can depower it. As fuel costs rise, you can defend yourself by going to a smaller engine and just going a little slower, all the way down to electric power if warranted. Unlike almost all other boats you'll see today, it's designed to be efficient and comfortable at any speed between 5 and 25 knots.
