Summary
For the first time, we have made plans available for one of our popular small V-bottom boats. We can also build this custom boat just for you.

This is perhaps the ultimate development of the small powerboat. It's got it all: shapely, cold-molded hull; smooth riding bottom; deep, dry cockpit; roomy, comfortable cabin with galley; and a fuel-sipping, safe Diesel engine. And it's easily trailerable. We named this design the Wooden Shoe because the first of these boats will be built in Holland.

Hull Design
Our 34' Odyssey has been described as the smoothest riding boat of its size, especially in a chop. So when we started thinking about this new design, the obvious starting point was the hull form which we developed for the Odyssey. The Wooden Shoe is really a small Odyssey, with a little extra deadrise in the bottom. Deadrise at the bow is 60°, 24.5° under the helm chair, and 15° at the transom. This cold-molded bottom will give a superb ride at a 25 to 30 knot cruise.

We also specified cold-molded topsides in this design. That gave us the freedom to impart a lobster-boat shape to the upper portion of the hull. A full, flaring bow tapers back to a tumblehome transom. This is a boat that will forever be a pleasure to the eye. An additional advantage of cold-molded construction for the amateur is that no single piece of the boat is very large or has much surface area. That makes cutting and gluing a more comfortable activity for someone working alone.

Layout
The cabin interior has our standard small-boat layout. This interior has been proven to be comfortable, practical, and attractive. Two hatches and opening ports let in plenty of air. The large cabin windows make the all-wood cabin interior a light and airy space. The V-berths are 6'8" long, convert into a double, and have 4" cushions. There's plenty of sitting headroom on the berth, and you can stand in the companionway to cook and wash up. A Porta-Potti or marine head hides in its compartment under the berth.

The cockpit has consoles, port and starboard. The portside console has a glove box, while the starboard console has room for the mandatory chart plotter and other instruments. A pair of swivel chairs dominate the 42 square foot cockpit. Teak ladder-back chairs look good here. A bench seat aft makes a comfortable spot for passengers and can contain a built-in ice chest or other goodies. The cockpit sole and bench seat are teak planked as standard, though you can glass these surfaces if you are building the boat yourself. The cockpit is completely self-bailing. Flush, watertight hatches offer complete and easy bilge access.

Aft of the cockpit, a teak bridge deck separates the padded sundeck from the cockpit. The sundeck covers the thoroughly sound insulated engine compartment, and two separate side storage compartments. These storage compartments offer excellent engine access through large removable doors in the engine compartment sides, while they provide a huge, clean storage place for canvas and other boat equipment. The sound insulation and sundeck cushions combine to keep engine noise down to a pleasing exhaust note.

There is plenty of walk-around deck space, making it easy to get forward when docking or anchoring. There are teak handrails and toerails for your safety. Cockpit and cabin trim, sheer guards, and windscreen are all solid teak. Exterior woodwork can be oiled, varnished, or painted, as you desire.

Technical Details
The bottom is cold-molded from two layers of 6mm hardwood plywood. The bottom planking is backed up by ¾" x 1½" stringers on 3" centers. The topsides are cold-molded from two layers of 5mm hardwood plywood with a layer of 1/8" mahogany veneer over those layers. The topside planking is backed up by 11/16" x 1½" stringers on 6" centers. When we build this boat, we put a layer of glass cloth and epoxy between the planking layers, and another layer of glass and epoxy on the exterior. We also epoxy coat all exterior surfaces except the teak trim, and we put glass and epoxy on the deck and cabin top.

Cabin sides and coamings are ½", deck and cabin top are 3/8". The stem and keel are African mahogany. Chine guards and skeg are oak to resist abrasion and are applied over the glass and epoxy finish. A stainless steel stem band and bow eye are standard. This combination of oak and stainless steel will resist the abrasion of beaching far better than any fiberglass boat could.

Our standard paint is the highest quality marine polyurethane available, in your choice of colors. Anti-fouling bottom paint is also standard. The cabin interior is coated with an easy care clear gloss marine finish to show off the beauty of the woods and fine joiner work.
